THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH, AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH
“The boundry between truth and error is not a rigid one, and we were able ultimately to demonstrate that what we generally call truth, namely a conceptual world coinciding
with the external world, is merely the most expedient error.
The conceptual world is, as we both assume and found to be the case, subjective in its forms: only the observed and the unchangable are real. The whole framework in which we
place what is preserved is only subjective; subjective is fictional; fictional is false; falshood is error;
The world of ideas which results from this ambition, and which we generally call 'truth' is consequently only the most proper error.”
Vaihinger H. (1952). The philosophy of "as if" (C.K. Ogden, Trans.). London: Routledge.
In the article entitled Art as Antifiction (1983) the philosopher Odo Marquard describes a process,
in which “the fictional subverts the real, reality becomes thoroughly fictionalized, so to speak, and the difference between the real and the fictional dissolves.
He acclaim that fiction is no longer limited to particular domains (most notably art), but rather infiltrates and shapes practically all areas of human life.
From this perspective, fiction seems to be virtually omnipresent; it is seen as having the potential to expand, which can be promising or threatening, depending on
one’s point of view. On the one hand, the dissolving distinction between reality and fiction seems to point toward a new kind of unity between art and life. On the
other hand, the phenomenon of dissolution is also at the heart of numerous modern dystopias. Although pessimistic and optimistic outlooks may disagree on certain points,
there is an apparent consensus that ‘fictionalizing the world’ is a process which is accelerating and expanding.
This is an ongoing project which tries to define the truth. In my interpretation, the most understandable way to visualize "Antifiction" would be to show images
which were taken by ordinary people. Second, following the definition of Vaihinger H. about the truth, I chose to collect images which deal with error, mistake, destruction
